Hard corals are mainly scleractinaries made up of a living and contractile part composed of polyps and a calcareous skeleton. Different types of hard corals can be observed here : branched corals characterized by their relatively fragile bushy branches, columnar corals forming ascending columns, digited corals with thicker ramifications better adapted to the reef crests and tabular corals with large and flat surfaces.
