This aerial shot gives pride of place to the digue du Large (offshore dike) that extends from the Vieux-Port pass in the south to L'Estaque in the north, passing through the ports of La Joliette and Arenc. It is a narrow 4.3 miles (7 km) long strip made of concrete blocks and stones from the Frioul quarries which forms an angle and ends with a lighthouse. Completed in 1925, it protects the Joliette basins from swells and storms and offers a promenade that has been closed to the public since 2001.
