Lavandiculture in France has played its cards right on the international scale thanks to tourism. Today, France produces 50% of the world's lavender essential oil and sells 700,000 lavender bouquets to tourists from all over the world each year. With twenty distilleries open to visits from Montélimar to Dignes via Apt, Sault or Valensole, thirteen major lavender festivals organized each year, and more than a hundred places (museums, exhibitions, shops, etc.) devoted to it, lavender is more than ever at the heart of the Provençal economy and tourism.
