Granville is perched on Pointe du Roc, surrounded from north to south and west by the English Channel. Its upper part constitutes the historic heart of the privateer city. Its large entrance door and the Logis du Roy (King's dwelling) remind visitors of that time, and most of the rich granite houses date from the 17h and 18th centuries. Granville's ramparts, raised between 1715 and 1720, and its bastions still illustrate the former military power of the peninsula.
