Châteauneuf is a small commune in the canton of Arnay-le-Duc in the Côte-d'Or department in Burgundy. Its local name, Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, attaches it to Auxois this natural region which extends over 1,553 miles (2,500 km2) from the threshold of Burgundy in the south to the Paris region in the north and forms a ditch (graben) separating the Morvan from the plateaus of Langres-Châtillonnais. In hydrology, it includes the point where the waters divide between the Loire, the Rhône and the Seine.
