Turtles bay

Turtle Bay (Nêpêcîrî in Kanak) is located in the town of Bourail, along the west coast of New Caledonia. It is accessed by the 3 bays trail or by the Pearced Rock tunnel when the tide is low. It is bordered by column pines. It owes its name to the many Big Head turtles (Caretta Caretta) which lay there between November and February. The beach is then closed to give them the necessary tranquility. Their observation is possible with the presence of volunteers from the Bwara Marine Turtles Association who ensure the preservation of the site and that of the animals.
