The rusa deer (Cervus timorensis), both male and female, has a relatively small head with a coarse, disheveled, grayish-brown coat. Unlike many species of deer, its fawns are not spotted. Only males have antlers which fall each year. Active at dawn and dusk, it is always careful and rarely seen uncovered.
