The Grande-Gargouille and Petite-Gargouille are the main axes of the Cité Vauban in Briançon. The Grande-Gargouille is a cobbled street about 3,280 ft (1,000 m) long crisscrossed by a central channel through which flows water originally intended for fire fighting. The old town is nicknamed La Gargouille because of the channel crossing it.
