The legs and neck of the greater flamingo (Phœnicopterus roseus) impress with their length, essential for searching and collecting food in waters of all depths. If its 2.9 ft (90 cm) long neck in males allows it the most astonishing contortions, it also serves as an additional point of support by acting as a natural tripod. As for the length of its legs, it allows the greater flamingo to run with great strides to take flight and to cushion its landings.
