A showcase of volcanism

The Puys chain , or Monts Dômes, is a tectonic hotspot of around 80 volcanoes. It stretches over 27.9 miles (45 km) on the Dômes plateau in the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park in Northern Massif Central. The Puys chain is a real showcase of the different types of volcanoes: Strombolian volcanoes with well-formed cones and craters are the most common, but Pelean dome volcanoes are also present as well as crater lakes, or maars, resulting from phreatomagmatic eruptions.
