The locality of Bormes-les-Mimosas is famous for the yellow flowering of its mimosas (Acacia dealbata) and for sheltering the Fort de Brégançon, a residence used as the official summer resort of the President of the French Republic. The town covers almost 24,000 acres (9,700 ha) between the Mediterranean coast of the Var department and the extreme south of the Maures Massif. It rises from sea level, at the Favière district and the port, to an altitude of 2,106 ft (642 m). The medieval village extends on the hillside under the ruins of the old castle at 505 ft (154 m) above sea level.
