In the spring of 2014, the Marais Vernier and the Risle maritime valley obtained the Ramsar label thanks to their remarkable biological and landscape heritage. An integral part of the estuarine complex of the Seine, this territory constitutes one of the largest wetlands in the Seine Normandy basin extending over 9,564 hectares. The Marais Vernier is home to the largest peat deposit in France. The Risle maritime, coastal river which is a space of transition between salt water and fresh water. In 2018, Pont-Audemer was the first city in France to obtain the Ramsar City label.
