Villefranche-sur-Mer is a small maritime town of 5,064 inhabitants extending on the Côte d'Azur 2.5 mi (4 km) from Nice and 7.4 mi (12 km) from Monaco. The locality with an area of 1,206 acres (488 ha) spreads out between 0 and 1,886 ft (575 m) above sea level on the sides of the vast amphitheater of hills forming the Bay of Villefranche. A member of the Nice Côte d'Azur conurbation, Villefranche-sur-Mer is separated from the neighboring city of Nice by Mont Boron, Mont Alban, and Mont Vinaigrier.
