Initially, the Villa Majorelle was listed as a Historic Monument in 1975. Classification of its walls and its portal followed in 1996. The house was also labeled a heritage of the 20th century. Finally, in 2011, the Villa Majorelle obtained the Maisons des Illustres (houses of the illustrious) certification label from the French Ministry of Culture. It rewards the houses whose owners contributed to the history of the country. Louis Majorelle was among the leaders of Nancy School, which participated in the diffusion of Art Nouveau worldwide.
