Between 1901 and 1902, Louis Majorelle (1859-1926), a prosperous art industrialist, had a villa built in Nancy to witness his art. It adjoined his furniture-making workshops. He called on the most renowned artists from Nancy to make the house a flagship of Art Nouveau in the city. In his catalog, Majorelle proposed to his clients to fully decorate and furbish their villa, or only a room, to make it ready to be inhabited. He would install woodwork, doors, wall hangings, furniture, bedding, rugs, curtains, or stained glass from scratch.
