A regulated version of free racing

The Camargue races have been known under various names throughout their existence. First referred to as Provençal races in the 15th century, they were later called free races. On February 27, 1966, a congress organized in Paluds-de-Noves in the Bouches-du-Rhône department adopted the implementation of the Vignon project. It led to the approval of the Charter of the cockade race, the first regulation of the eponymous events. Even though it continued being used for a long time, the free race designation gave way to the cockade race or the Camargue race. On October 10, 1975, the French Federation of the Camargue Race (FFCC) was approved by the Ministry. Today, Camargue racing is recognized as a sport by the State Secretariat for Youth and Sports.
