Orient Lake is a body of water whose level is variable and quite low at the end of summer and in autumn. These particular conditions favor specific aquatic vegetation, whose arrangement varies with the humidity level of the soil. It consists, among other things, of pondweed rafts that regenerate the oxygen in the water. In the lake's reed beds grow the marsh germander, protected in the Champagne-Ardenne region, and the water buttercup, protected throughout the country.
