A basketry organized around two plant fibers
0
0
Amerindian basketry techniques have been perpetuated in Martinique around two types of plant fibers: cachibou and aromam. These fibers, present in abundance on the slopes of the hills for the cachibou and in the wetlands (swamps, ravines) for the aromam, require processing before use. The stem of the cachibou is debarked, boiled, then dried for two days in the sun to soften and lighten until it reaches a light beige color. As for the aromam, it is squared and exposed to the sun until it takes on an amber color.
