The ephemeral work “L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, Paris (1961-2021)”, by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, lasted exactly sixteen days, from Saturday 18 September to Sunday 3 October 2021. It took two months of assembly, from 15 July to 17 September, to wrap the monument on the Place de l’Etoile with 269,097 sq. ft. (25,000 m²) of recyclable silver polypropylene tarpaulin and 3,000 metres of red rope of the same material. This project marks the culmination of a dream formulated in the 1960s by the artist couple. It was finalised by their technical team after Christo’s death in 2020, according to the artist’s wishes.
