Built between 1897 and 1900, the Grand Palais is a collective architectural work. As it became impossible to decide between them during the design competition, architects Henri Deglane, Albert Louvet and Albert-Félix-Théophile Thomas shared the tasks, under the supervision of Charles Girault. This masterpiece of stone, steel and glass occupies 252,624 sq. ft. (77,000 m²) in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. It is recognisable by the large glass roof 44,291 sq. ft. (13,500 m²) of the nave under which major artistic and cultural events are organised. Classified as a historical monument since November 2000, it welcomes two million visitors per year.
