A recognized landscape unit

Norman Switzerland is characterized by its reliefs of hard rocks - in particular sandstone bars - laid bare by the Orne (photo) and its tributaries encased in softer rocks. A Landscape Charter in Norman Switzerland was produced in 1998 to give an institutional delimitation defined by its landscapes to this area. In 2017, it was partially included in the Atlas of the Orne landscape that mentions a landscape unit entitled Norman Switzerland. It is said to be shared between the Cingal-Suisse Normande and Pays de Falaise communities of communes in the Calvados department as well as the community of communes of Val d'Orne and the Flers Agglo urban community in the Orne department.
