The crossing of La Meije is a legendary mountain route in the French Alps. It combines the ascent of the Grand Pic (13,067 ft / 3,983 m) by the Promontory ridge along the historic route of 1877 and the crossing of the ridges to the Doigt de Dieu (13,034 ft / 3,973 m). This course of confirmed to expert level includes a 2,952 ft (900 m) elevation gain from the Promontoire de l'Aigle refuge, a ridge crossing of around 1,640 ft (500 m) in length at almost 13,123 ft (4,000 m) in altitude, and a descent of 7,582 ft (2,311 m). Rated D- (difficult lower) in mountaineering, the route has a maximum slope of 45°.
