A tradition of foals branding
0
0
Branding foals, like cattle, with a hot iron between six and seven months old, just before they are weaned, is a tradition in Camargue horse breeding and the manades. Today, this operation is accompanied by formalities for the identification of the animal by the services of the National Stud Farms and by the issuance of an identity document attached to the horse throughout its life. The foals are captured, isolated from the group, fallen, securely held, shackled, and branded with a hot iron. Branding constitutes, in a way, the return to school for foals who are then separated from their mothers and begin their lives as horses.
