Due to the wide distribution of the breed and the wide range of its use, the Percherons present significant variations in size and weight (5.24 to 6 ft / 1.60 to 1.85 m at the withers, with an average of 5.5 ft / 1.68 m and 1,102 to 2,645 pounds / 500 to 1,200 kg). The horse still gives off an impression of nobility and style superior to that of other draft breeds, hence its worldwide success. Renowned for its docility, it is likened to a ton of kindness. The heaviest Percheron at the Haras National du Pin, Reggae, weighs 2,048 pounds (929 kg). It is, like the other Percherons registered in France, branded with a hot iron on the left side of its neck with the letters S and P, the initials of the Société Hippique Percheronne (Percheron Horse Society).
