The Percheron has been described in the studbook of its breed since 1883. Its head is notably presented there as fine and rectilinear with a straight and flat muzzle and a wide and square forehead. Its ears are thin and long, its nostrils broad and very open, and its eye is sharp and out. The horse's neck is long and curly, and its hair is abundant. The national breed competition takes place at the end of September at the Haras National du Pin.
