The village of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt has distinguished itself in the field of the mystical passions that transcended France in the 19th century. The miracle Rosette Tamisier says to have witnessed did not take place in Saint-Etienne Church visible here but in the 11th-century castle chapel that dominates the primitive village. In 1850, the young villager would have seen there a painting representing the descent of Christ from the Cross start bleeding three times and would have kept the tangible traces of handkerchiefs stained with blood. Accused of lying and imprisoned, Rosette Tamisier has always protested her good faith, and her story caused a massive stir just before the apparitions of Lourdes.
