A land of waterfalls and caves

The Cascade des Tufs rises at the bottom of a typical limestone valley in Baume-les-Messieurs in the Jura department. Many caves were dug by rainwater and groundwater from the Cuisance. Not far from the waterfall fed by the Dard, the caves of Baume-les-Messieurs display 0.62 miles (1 km) of galleries fitted out between the highest stalactites in Jura (230 ft / 70 m) and limestone concretions. A little further on extend the caves of Moidons, discovered in 1966 and accessible to visit since 1989.
