The gardian's outfit was defined, perpetuated, and glorified by the Nacioun Gardiano association created in 1909. It traditionally consists of trousers in beige, gray, or brown moleskin adorned on the side with a thin black stripe. It comes with a brightly colored shirt with printed patterns and a collar usually closed with a tie or a cord. During performances and ceremonies, the gardian also wears a black velvet waistcoat or jacket with silk lining. His wide-brimmed felt hat is called Valergues.
