Built in 1689, the redoubt of Réville is an old fortification of the English Channel located near the bay of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. It was part of a defensive system wanted by Louis XIV to protect the northern access to the harbor. With 104 ft (32 m) on each side and surrounded by a dry ditch, it had three guns of 8, 12 and 18 pounds. During an invasion attempt in 1692, the English infiltrated near the coast and set fire to many French boats in front of the redoubt, where 13 infantry companies awaited orders. The site has been listed as a Historical Monument since 1992.
