The town of Argelès-sur-Mer is one of the most important seaside resorts on the Côte Vermeille (Vermillion Coast). Established over 14,500 acres (5,867 ha), the city extends close to the Spanish border in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. Argelès-sur-Mer is known for its sandy beach, almost 5 miles (7 km) long, frequented by swimmers, water sports enthusiasts, and scuba divers. The town is of typical Catalan style, with a historic center made of narrow streets.
