The wine symbolized by this decor of a vine stock has always played an essential role both as medicine and as a means of financing the Hospices de Beaune. Every third Sunday of November takes place the Hospices de Beaune sale of wines, during which the estate's annual production is auctioned off. The profits from the sale and the ticket office for the most visited monument in Burgundy perpetuate the charitable work of Nicolas Rolin and his wife, Guigone de Salins. The money gathered contributes to the acquisition of hospital equipment and the modernization of the buildings.
