The horse is making a remarkable comeback throughout French vineyards. It represents a much less expensive investment than a tractor. Excessively steep or too small plots are a problem for the machines while the horse passes quietly over any type of terrain. The farming yield is obviously lower, with one row instead of three, but the soils benefit from the horse-man cooperation. Less compressed, their microbial life is richer. The increase of the soils' quality also enhances that of the grapes. The Champagne Marguet domain has used Ardennes workhorses since 2010.
