The Alexandre-III bridge is one of the most elegant in Paris, both in terms of its single-arch architecture and its rich decoration. Its single three-jointed 107.5-metre-long metal arch has no central connection. Its framework is composed of fifteen steel trusses and two masonry viaducts on the banks. The bridge has powerful abutments (17-metre high pylons) to resist the strong horizontal thrust. The Alexandre-III bridge was built in record time (1897-1900) by engineers Jean Résal and Amédée Alby in association with architects Joseph Cassien-Bernard and Gaston Cousin.
