A sentinel island in the Mediterranean Sea, the island of Bagaud is crisscrossed by four old batteries (Batteries North, Center, South, and East). They were erected following the descent in July 1707 of the English and Dutch fleets that came to fight France during the War of the Spanish Succession. The island subsequently belonged to the Ministry of Defense for a long time before its assignment, in 2008, to the Coastal Protection Agency that made its land control inalienable.
