Born blind, Sainte Odile is rejected by her father. She later miraculously recovered sight. Her secluded life and her kindness made her a saint, canonized in the 11th century. At the foot of Mount Saint Odile flows a spring. It is said that she made it suddenly arise with a stroke of her cane. Today, she is the object of perpetual adoration, and the monastery, built where her father's castle stood, a high place of pilgrimage.
