Orient Lake and its surrounding forest attract an important ornithological diversity. They extend within the Forêt d'Orient Regional Nature Park, in which more than 250 bird species, including 130 nesting ones, have been observed. The lake constitutes a stopover during migration for the common crane, the harvest goose, and the gray heron, whose population was revitalized by the creation of the region's artificial water reservoirs. The bald eagle, emblem of the USA, sometimes hovers above Orient Lake.
