A voluntary nature reserve

Although it is not directly part of the Port-Cros National Park, Levant Island applies its charter as a signatory of its membership area. In 1993, it created on its territory a voluntary nature reserve of about 49 acres (20 ha) called Domaine des Arbousiers to cling to the philosophy close to nature of its naturist community. Located to the east of the coastal archipelago of Hyères Islands, Levant Island benefits from one of the highest levels of sunshine in France. Such characteristics justify the name of the island and the worship of the sun by the naturists of the Heliopolis village that extends on its flank.
