In order to preserve the 2,718 acres (1,110 ha) of Madine Lake, the site was classified as a National Hunting and Wild Fauna Reserve (RNCFS) in 1998. Its waters are home to a rich and diverse avifauna. The lake's banks consist of shallow coves bordered by reed beds and pondweeds filled with insects and amphibians. They serve as a food source and nesting spot for the 250 bird species that inhabit Madine Lake or rest on its shores during migrations.
