A reorganization commissioned by Colbert

At the end of Honfleur's Vieux Bassin (Old Basin) stands the former home of the King's Lieutenant, or Lieutenancy, from the 17th century. The western part of the ramparts was destroyed in 1681 when Abraham Duquesne was commissioned by Colbert to replace the old stranding harbor, which had become too small for marine traffic. The narrow and tall houses that line Quai Sainte-Catherine date from the 17th and 18th centuries. Some are corbelled or covered with gray slate tiles.
