Near the village of Tautavel in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, the cave of the Caune de l'Arago has been harboring remarkable human remains found repeatedly for 50 years. The first remains discovered on the site were a milk molar (named Arago 1) and parts of skulls in 1964. The collection now includes 151 human remains and continues to grow richer almost every year thanks to the excavations. Archaeozoological techniques allow scientists to estimate that the remains of at least twenty individuals have been unearthed in the Caune de l'Arago.
