A region known for its flamingos
2
0
Camargue is the only French region where flamingos live freely. Though the large waders can be observed there all year round, they are not considered sedentary birds. The flamingos are erratic or nomadic birds whose population revolves around the wetlands of the Mediterranean basin. They are particularly visible on the salt marshes of Aigues-Mortes, where nearly 42,000 specimens find refuge during the summer season. Nearly 12,000 youngs were born during the summer of 2020, hence making Aigues-Mortes a privileged site for observation.
