The Yonne has contributed to the history of Burgundy to the rhythm of its canals. Over the centuries, they became arteries driving the trade of goods to Paris. The Canal de Bourgogne connects the Yonne to the Saone over 150 miles (242 km) and offers other travel possibilities in a nature dotted with monuments, churches, and villages. In Joigny, it is possible for visitors to rent electric boats to discover a more intimate Burgundy by crisscrossing the Yonne, the Canal de Bourgogne, and the Canal du Nivernais.
