A region of forests

Forests cover more than 250,000 hectares, or 50% of the area of the Jura department. They are multifaceted, from the Chaux forest - the second largest deciduous forest in France - in the plain, to the high-altitude forests (Massacre forest, Risoux forest) via the largest fir forest in Europe (Joux forest). Both a heritage and an exceptional natural resource, the forests of all species (oak grove, beech grove, spruce grove...) are part of the DNA of this region whose name referred to a 'mountain forest' in old Gallic.
