A historical and cultural region
"Richovilare" (Riquewihr) belonged to the counts of Horbourg in the 12th century. The site was then overlooked by a fortified castle, the Reichenstein. It became a den of brigand knights and was half-destroyed by Rodolphe of Habsbourg. The city was later strengthened, and its sanctuaries and churches developed, participating in the cultural richness of Alsace. The region of Riquewihr is also a crossing point of the wine route nowadays.
