Built according to Vauban's plans between 1709 and 1712, the Salettes redoubt of Briançon (Hautes-Alpes) was transformed into a real fort under the July Monarchy from 1848 onwards. Completed in 1854, it was equipped with artillery, was bastioned, and accommodated six Haxo-type casemates as well as a powder magazine with a capacity of 14 tons. The pyramidal roof of its tower was reinforced by a terraced roof, today grassed (photo), intended to cushion the projectiles.
