The Comtois is a sturdy little horse that has been praised since Roman times in the mountains of Franche-Comté. Its docile character brings it to every farm for draft work, and it is also easy to hitch up and is used for trips to village festivals or to transport goods to markets. The Comtois horse was the pride of the peasants who owned it until the arrival of tractors. Today, Julien Dugois' breeding farm in Brevans (Jura) revives the tradition and perpetuates a breed appreciated by Francs-Comtois.
