A peninsula born from an ancient volcano
2
0
The Maguelone peninsula was born between sea and ponds from an ancient volcano and has been occupied by men since the Paleolithic era. Since then, all the major Mediterranean civilizations have passed through or occupied it. The peninsula allows discovering part of France's history through its invasions. The imposing Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Maguelone cathedral, an old fortress in Romanesque style, was destroyed and rebuilt several times. The seat of an important bishopric for a millennium and a temporary refuge of several popes, the monument was rehabilitated in 1852 by Frédéric Fabrége.
