According to the legend, the hen of Hienghène would have settled at the entrance of the Hienghène river mouth, on the northeast coast of Grande-Terre, to help the inhabitants of the remote clans of Tiendanite, Werap and Tendo. She would have laid gigantic eggs from which many benefits would have come for the surrounding tribes and would have encouraged them to settle closer to the sea to fish in its particularly fishy waters.
