The inhabitants of the Hienghène region - on the northeast coast of Grande-Terre in New Caledonia - have immense respect for the hen-shaped black rock which closes Hienghène Bay because of the legend surrounding its appearance. Allegedly sprung from the waters to help the inhabitants, it brought them many benefits.
