Mustard is a plant of the cruciferous family whose flowers have four petals arranged in a cross like rapeseed, cabbage, or radish. Its flowers give fruits contained in pods called siliques. The mustard seedpod has well-marked veined valves bristling with hairs. It ends in a sterile conical part called the beak (style). The mustard is harvested before its siliques open when fully ripe.
